What We Do
Rainbow Kids & Families is an Elementary School Student & Family Led Organization.
We strive to help LGBTQIA+ students and families feel safe, welcome, and supported in Douglas County and surrounding schools.
Gather
Rainbow Kids & Families is all about community. We coordinate several support and meeting groups for youth and adults alike. We host events and activities targeted at uniting our community and having a good time.
Rainbow Kids & Families hosts fun gatherings for kids (e.g., spring & fall mixers, group play activities with the kids) and parent hang-outs (e.g., network via Facebook closed group, parents-only gatherings).
Support
At Rainbow Kids & Families we work to support families with both LGBTQIA+ youth and LGBTQIA+ caregivers. One way we do this is by identifying supportive individuals in schools, called RKF Champions. Your RKF Champion will help you navigate any difficulties that may arise at school or in your community.
In line with our mission to create safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ families, Rainbow Kids & Families provides online resources and school packets to educators and families in our community.
Advocate
We are fierce advocates for our LGBTQIA+ families. Because we are a non-profit and not affiliated with the school boards, we can work to advocate on your behalf.
By promoting and supporting policies that align with our mission, we advocate for our students and families at the school and district level, as well as the community and state level.
